Access keys
Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. On Windows, you can press ALT + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press Control + an access key.
All pages on this site define the following access keys:
- Access Key 0 - Skip over navigation menu and jump straight to the content on the current page
- Access Key 1 - Home
- Access Key 2 - The Project
- Access Key 3 - The Grand Theatre
- Access Key 4 - Opera North
- Access Key 5 - The People
- Access Key 6 - Sponsors
- Access Key 7 - News and Events
- Access Key 8 - Press Area
- Access Key 9 - Donate
Standards Compliance
- The site has been built with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines in mind, although full compliance has not been possible due to the nature of the design.
- All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
Links
- Where appropriate, extra information about links is provided in the title attribute of the link tag.
- Links are arranged in a logical tab order.
- Link text is written so that it makes sense of out context.
Images
- All non-background images used on the site have descriptive alt attributes.
Visual Design
- While tables are used for layout we have tried to make sure the content appears in the correct order when tables are linearised. You can use access key 0 to skip the navigation and jump to the main content on any page.
- The site uses relative font size.
- The site is readable if CSS or tables are not disabled..
Forms
- All form elements have a corresponding label tag to associate the text description with the field
