Opera North is England's national opera company in the North, committed to producing work that entertains, informs and excites. Based in Leeds it tours to Nottingham, Salford, Newcastle, Sheffield, Hull, Norwich, Belfast and London. From 15 July to 21 July 2005 the Company will also be visiting the Ravenna Festival in Italy.

Over the past three decades it has established itself as one of the leading arts organisations in the country and one of the most imaginative opera companies in Europe. Its work has recently been recognised with the following awards:

• Winner of the South Bank Show Award for Opera 2005
• Winner of Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award for Opera and Music Theatre 2004
• Winner of the TMA Theatre Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera 2004
• Winner of the Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for Opera 2004
